analysis essays We the people - How far should we take it. It is our government, our state, what the people say should be law, as long as certain inalienable rights are observed. In 2002, a referendum was placed on the Florida ballot stating the State would build a mass transit sytem "Bullet Train"..The destination would be from Tampa to Orlando. The next "leg" would be to Miami. Florida voters overwhelmingly passed the bullet train referendum two years ago. Now the legislators are trying to take it away. Are they not our elected representatives? Should they not heed the wishes of the people? Unfortunately, the Florida Legislature has not appropriated any money for this project. They have stated there is not enough money in the budget. They are trying to get it back on the ballot in hopes it will be defeated. Many mistakes were made in 2002 when the initiative was placed on the ballot. No funds were provided and those voting for it had no idea what it would cost the taxpayers. Now as the cartoon shows, the legislature is attempting to crush the "sand train." Both the legislators and the voters should learn a lesson - know what you are voting for and who you are voting for. The wave will crush the bullet train, but the concept could still be kept alive if the Florida voters are given enough information to vote intelligently. The young child in the picture illustrates the future that belongs to our youth. Should progress prevail or should we stagnate our human resources? Florida has a very complex governmental system. The shift in preference and focus on healthy and ethical food products have however emerged as a strong wave of change that has affected both small and large food establishments in the industry. This emergent trend concentrates on the nutritional value of the food products being presented to the consumer as opposed to concentrating on lowering food costs or producing new products that may have negative impacts on clients’ health. While healthy food products are the major aspect of this new trend, aspects of consideration for family requirements have also been attached to the health concerns. According to a study done by the National Restaurant Association, most modern food establishments have received increased demands from their clients for healthier options in their menus. Most clients at restaurants also proposed that increased information on the process, contents and types of food products should be provided to them (Kerr, 2009). The variety of necessary information ranged from the calorie counts in various foods to discovering fresher produce on the menu. The study also revealed that over 72% of adults were focused on changing their diets and food consumption to take in healthier options (Kerr, 2009). Most restaurants reported that this change was witnessed in the increased orders in healthful foods as compared to two years ago. Some of the most preferred diets included foods that were gluten-free, children-centered, whole grain items, vegetables and fruits (Bittman, 2011). This change in perception and behavior has been brought about by several aspects (Kerr, 2009) . Increased information on food options and consequences of healthy lifestyles has been a major causative factor responsible for the increased focus on healthy foods inn restaurants. Nearly all the avenues of information globally provide consumers with detailed information concerning what they consume on a daily basis. Health practitioners and professionals in the food sector are the most prominent actors in this regard. These two sets of experts have provided endless and influential information on calorie intake, physical and psychological effects as well as cost-cutting measures and other information that has greatly change the attitudes of most restaurant clients (Bittman, 2011). From features on the Internet to television shows, the message being sent by most health and culinary experts has greatly pushed many people to reconsider their consumption patterns. Television shows such as Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger and renowned publications such as The Best Life Diet and Younger You have inspired many people to drop the conventional famous fast foods and pick up healthier alternatives (Kerr, 2009). Within restaurants, the conversion to healthier foods has also been prompted by increased information that is listed on the menu that clarifies calorie content, fat and other ingredients (Kerr, 2009). Economic incentives have also been a major contributor towards changed perceptions of restaurant fast foods. Against the background of strained economic times, most citizens have a difficult time allocating enough money to cater for food needs. While the general perception among many people has been that healthier foods cost more, increased information on the food costs and comparison with different stores has revealed that healthier foods are quite affordable. With the increased awareness of this difference, people have started embracing healthier food options because of their cost saving benefits (Bittman, 2011). Fast food establishments previously only had the monopoly due to highly subsidized raw materials that allow them to sell most foods for a small price. Even among low-income households, the switch to healthier foods has been prompted by increased medical costs. While fast foods may be cheaper, it has been discovered that they contain grave nutritional implications such as o besity, cancers and other critical diseases. Therefore, high medical costs have also encouraged many people to take up healthier diets and this has changed the food products offered in most restaurants (Bittman, 2011). Promotion of healthier alternatives for restaurants The best approach towards realizing increased and affordable healthier alternatives within the food industry is to promote production of healthy and organic foods. The main challenge in realizing healthier diets in most menus is the availability of organic vegetables, fruits and other animal products. This can be traced back to the federal level. At this level, the government should be lobbied to subsidize further the research and development of organic produce. The government should also be lobbied to increase the import of organic foodstuffs into the country. When the availability of organic foods can seize to be a problem, most food establishments can comfortably include them in all their diets. Another approach that would greatly entrench the tradition of providing healthy products in restaurants is increased sensitization on the different ingredients, calorie levels and other elements used in everyday preparation of fast foods. Through a strong awareness campaign that can be sp earheaded by a joint effort comprising of the medical, media and food sector, consumers can be provided with relevant information on the best dietary choices. Conclusively, change in the restaurant sector can also be influenced by incorporating the contribution of the mainstream and support staff. This includes the chefs and their assistants, waiters and other professionals involved in food preparation. By providing them with the necessary knowledge on the consequences of offering clients fast foods, they can jointly cooperate toward preparing healthier foods while in the kitchen. Corus has three operating division, first is strip products, second is long products and third is distribution building system. Corus strip products UK (CSP UK) is based at port Talbot and Llanwern, Newport in south wales. CSP UK makes steel in strip form. This is used in markets such as vehicle manufacture, construction, electrical appliances, tubes and packaging. Corus aims to be a leader in the steel industry by providing better products, higher quality, customer services better value for money than its rivals. In the 2005 CSP UK introduced a cultural plan for change called The journey. The journey focused value and belief of its people. People prefer to live in the company of other people with known habits and traits. This is the reason culture act as barrier to effective communication within an organization. E.g. based on distance, distance is major example of communication barrier that affect an organization. Because every industry offices located in different location give little to people to interact in person and major business communication barriers exists between employees located in different offices. Acceptable Use Policy Artiesha Artis CIS 462 Security Strategies and Policy Professor Darrell Nerove October 20, 2012 Working in many different arenas while pursuing my degree in Computer Security has opened my eyes to many things, one thing that I have noticed is that some companies felt that they were immune to data breaches. I have worked in smaller organizations that just didn’t have the knowledge to protect their network against security breaches.One inexpensive and very productive way to counteract lack of resources or know how is with an Acceptable use police. An acceptable use policy is not put in place to snoop on individuals rather than to protect the businesses assets. The AUP (acceptable use policy) that I want to focus on is one that governs internet usage. Acceptable use policy regarding internet usage normally includes information about websites that are off limits as well as defining a scope for what sites are allowed to be accessed for personal surfing.Most AU P’s are put in place to protect the company’s employees, partners and the company itself from any illegal or damaging actions by individuals knowingly or unknowingly. Confidentiality, integrity and availability are the founding stables of insuring that information is secure. An acceptable use policy enforces confidentiality, integrity and availability by limiting access and disclosure to authorized users — â€Å"the right people† — and preventing access or disclosure to unauthorized ones — â€Å"the wrong people. , as well as requiring employees to authenticate themselves in order to control access to data system resources and in turn hold employees responsible if violations occur under their user id. The company that I presently work for has an acceptable use policy it purposes is to highlight an outline the acceptable use of the computer equipment and systems that we are granted access to. It is always stated throughout all the acceptable use policies I have seen that users must be aware that data created on corporate systems are property of the company.Employees are to exercise sound judgment regarding personal usage of computer systems. To be quite honest the AUP at my current organization is very straight forward and what I consider to be week. It is literally a blurb in the handbook that states that the internet systems are for business purposes only, and that the company observes the right to monitor the usage of the software. I can only think of a few reasons why the AUP at my organization is so brief.I work in the healthcare industry and because we deal with a lot of member information we are more concerned with HIPPA violations. In conjunction with HIPPA we also focus on making sure we remain in compliance with the HITECH act. Since there are other rules that we become preoccupied with the focus is no longer place on the AUP at my job. You will notice although there is no strict regards to an AUP at my place of employment there are filters and blocks in place so that certain websites are not able to be accessed.I have a few ideas on how I would implement a better AUP at my place of employment. I would first conduct a current policy review. By performing an audit of my current internet usage policy I would compare it with what I want my new policy to be. Taking into careful consideration the degree of policy enforcement required. Next I would want to gain visibility of your network traffic. Using a Web traffic assessment tool, such as a proxy appliance, to identify and monitor Internet traffic and to identify specific areas or groups that are engaging in inappropriate or excessive Web use.This would allow me to analyze how much time users and user groups spend on the Internet during an â€Å"average† workday and what policies may need to be implemented. I would then concentrate on working collaboratively with all departments to enforce my end goal concentrating on the departments that have a bearing on the companywide Internet use policy, especially human resources and IT ensuring that there are no mismatches between the policies established and the ability of the network infrastructure to support them.After all this is completely then we would need to test my new policy by conducting an exercise with key users when the policy is at a draft stage. This will ensure that the policy is both practical in terms of achieving its objectives and sufficiently flexible to accommodate change or emergency situations. Then I would create a plan for announcing the new Internet usage policy throughout the organization to ensure that employee communication is well managed, the policy is understood and the restrictions imposed are fully justified.This would include denying access to Internet resources until users agree to accept the new policy. I would then ensure monitoring employee use is automated through Web monitoring software. I feel it would be a waste of human resou rces to assign a person or team to monitor the Internet activities of all company employees as a supervisor I know that there is just no time for looking over someone’s shoulder. Web monitoring software would provide efficient and comprehensive reports and data can be accessed within minutes.Stricter automation would allow management to set boundaries for site browsing, prevent downloading and installing of software and has multiple scanning engines to ensure that allowed downloads are free of viruses and other malware. By controlling downloads and browsing in real-time, the network is protected from malware. There is also the prevention of data leakage through socially-engineered websites and it also helps reduce cyber-slacking, thus boosting employee and business productivity.In order to increase awareness of the importance of AUP and the need for them I would hold formal companywide training. I would also have quarterly reviews on what to do if. I have always believed that the only way for end users to truly embrace and understand the importance of any new policy or procedure implemented is to make them part of it, so during training I would ask for suggestions on how the employees feel they could make things smoother or easier and I would advise them to keep an eye out for violations.Having individuals keep an eye out on violations is the more challenging part of it all because no one wants to be a snitch but in order for any policy or procedure to work well to its fullest all wheels have to turn in the same direction. Of course the responsibility of reporting violations won’t be solely on staff because I would want monitoring in place to assist with that.AUPs are put in place to protect a company's data assets and confidential information while also safeguarding employees and maintaining standards concerning the use of the Internet during working hours. Implementing Web monitoring software is an investment in security and could prevent emplo yees from cyber-slacking or abusing the company's trust with work-related information. By implementing and enforcing a solid AUP and providing ongoing, end-user education and training, a company can minimize risk, allowing them to focus on growing their business ather than the need to repair it. ? In the story 6 boys are assigned to a camp but the 6 boys that are in the story are different from all of the other groups, their loosers. Cry babies, party poopers, loosers, that's all they were and they all had to sleep under the same roof. One can imagine what kind of group of kids that would be but it turned out alright thanks to the 5 other boys leader Cotton. The boys get made fun of all through camp. The majority of them want to go home but Cotton keeps their hopes up. He is the kid who was like all of the pother normal athletic boys in the camp but he had a different thought process, felt, beleived, thought different about things. This made him different to all of the other boys so he got stuck with loosers. If it wasn't for him all the boys would have went home half way through the summer because of not haveing any fun. Cotton gave them hopes and dreams. He told them make beleive storie s befor they went to sleep at night about journies, that kept them pepped up. One night Lally 2, brother of Lally 1, got home sick and made for the road, the boys took aftyer him and found him in the woods shivering scared. They asked him why he ran away and said it was because he was homesick and wasn't haveing any fun. That's when Cotton thought of the ultimate plan.
